UDP proxy functions and configuration

UDP proxy makes it possible to watch open IPTV TV channels on special players that do not accept multicast streams. This function is necessary for uninterrupted IPTV broadcasting on phones, some Smart TV and game consoles. Let’s talk about it and its settings in more detail.

What is UDP Proxy?

UDP Proxy was created to convert UDP IPTV multicast traffic to unicast TCP. If you want to comfortably watch IPTV on Android phones, tablets, smart TVs and game consoles using Wi-Fi, this function will be very useful.
This program has two goals:

• IP-TV transmission in a local network based on OS Windows;
• continuous transmission of IP-TV through a router as HTTP traffic.

UDP proxy appeared in firmware from V2.02 (XXX.1) B2 version, where a function was added for watching interactive TV on home devices and players that do not support multicast streams. If a regular player has IPTV, the subscriber can watch it, but the broadcast will be carried out via HTTP. Therefore, UDP proxy was developed. A big advantage of using UDP proxies on routers and PCs is the reliability of transmission of IP-TV traffic packets, the ability to view on virtually any device and high-quality high-definition television. The channel is also more stable.

How do I find my proxy server address and port?

There are 3 common ways to determine this data:

• Method 1 – Socproxy.ru/ip service. Use a commonly used browser on your phone or personal computer and follow the link: https://socproxy.ru/ip . The home page will open showing the valid network address and proxy.
• Method 2 – SocialKit Proxy Checker utility. Download and install SocialKit Proxy Checker. Once fully loaded, run the utility on your computer. Click “Default Connection Information”. The information you need will appear.
• Method 3 – through the browser (Google Chrome, Opera, etc.). When a proxy is used in a browser, the parameters can be viewed there. To do this, open the “Advanced” section in the settings and click “System”. Next, click “Open PC proxy settings.” You will see a window in which the IP address and port are indicated (displayed after the colon). Provided a username and password are present, they will appear here in the same way.

What is Unprocessed UDP?

Non-proxied UDP is a proxy that is protected from leaking the real IP address through WebRTC. WebRTC (from English real-time communications – communication in real time) is a technology that provides the organization of streaming data between applications in real time. Using this technique can reveal your real IP address.

UDP proxy configuration

Not all devices (for example, smartphones, Smart-TB and TV with Android OS, game consoles, players, etc.) can reproduce multicast traffic by themselves. Here you need to directly specify the proxy in the personal parameters of the router, server, the device itself, or in the player available on this device. The network address and port are on the local network. Not only routers can act as servers, but also home computers with an Internet connection.

Wi-Fi router

Sometimes routers that support multicast streaming may have a built-in proxy enabled. Typically, the items are located in the tabs “LAN settings”, “UDP to НТРР”, “НТТР Proxy”, “Enable Proxy” or having similar names.

If it is possible to activate IGMP proxy (IP data management), it must be done.

If the port value is 0, you should also enable UDP proxy and register “1234” or any other port. Sometimes the default IP address is 192.168.0.1, less often 192.168.10.1. Check the information in the instructions for your router. IP data is usually printed on the bottom or back of the case.

Eltex WB-2 router

To configure this router, do the following:

1. Select “IPTV” from the top menu and then click “IPTV”.
2. Enable IPTV (check the box next to this line).
3. Select the IGMP flavor (there are options: “Auto”, “V2” or “V3”, if in doubt leave everything unchanged).
4. Activate HTTP proxy (also check the box).
5. Specify the proxy port.
6. Apply the settings by clicking the corresponding button.

Router D-Link DIR-615

To configure this router, do the following:

1. Select the advanced setting item, and click “Miscellaneous”.
2. Select IGMP (V3 is default).
3. Open the UDPXY service (check the box next to it).
4. Enter the port (in this example: 1234).
5. Click Apply.
6. Save your entries.

Router SNR-CPE-W4N

To configure this router, do the following:

1. In the options click on “Service” and then “Miscellaneous”.
2. In the Handling Mechanisms section, in the NAT Handling Mode row, select Disable from the options provided.
3. Activate IGMP proxy (under “IPTV Services”).
4. Install the multicast to http conversion for LAN (in the same section “IPTV Services”).
5. Enter the port number manually.
6. Click “Apply” to save the entered parameters.

Keenetic Ultra Internet Center

To configure via the Keenetic, do the following:

1. In the options click on “Control” (wheel), and then “General settings”.
2. Click Modify Component Set.
3. Find UDP-HTTP in the list and check the box. Click Install Update.
4. At the end of the complete installation of the proxy and restarting the device, go to the parameters and click “Control”, and then – “Applications”.
5. Activate the proxy (move the slider to the correct position). Go to the personal settings of the installed component itself (click “UDP-proxy” – opposite the slider).
6. Block the port. In the “Connect via” column, select the LAN provider (IPoE).
7. Save your entries.

After completing the Keenetic setup, you need to register the network address and port on the device (widget or program) on which you intend to watch IPTV through the proxy server of your router.
If everything is done correctly, the channel will be available not via UDP, but via TCP.

Setting up on a computer

If your router receives and transmits multicast messages (for example, TP-Link or D-Link), but it does not have a UDP proxy, you can use the utility by downloading it to your computer.

The type of connection is unimportant: wire or wireless.

To use a special utility as a proxy, you need to download it. You can do this by following the link: http://serv.sys-s.ru/UDP-to-HTTP-Proxy.exe. This is a UDP to HTTP proxy for Windows PC. Run UDP to HTTP Proxy.exe and proceed with configuration:

1. Set the interface of the multicast and the HTTP server, this is the same value: 192.168.1.2.
2. Specify the HTTP port: 1234 or other, and save the data.
3. Run the program by clicking the required button, or configure it to run as a server service. In this case, the program will start in auto mode every time the PC is started.

Specify the IP and port yourself in the parameters of the device itself, widget, or program, and freely watch IP-TB using a proxy on your PC. If everything is correct, the TV channels will start playing.

Sometimes you will need to enter your IP address and port number like this: http://192.168.1.1:1234.

Installation on Android OS and Windows OS

To view such a TV on a smartphone or computer, you need to install and configure special programs.

On OC Android

To watch such TV on your smartphone, you need to download the application from Google Play. For example, “IPTV”. This will allow you to download TV channels in the standard m3u format and play them with other video players. Once the app is downloaded and installed, you will need to set up a proxy on your phone. To do this, open the program and follow these steps:

1. Open “Settings” and already in them “Channel List”.
2. In the section that opens, fill in the link to the file with the list of available TV channels (playlist), which was provided by the provider.
3. Enter a valid internet protocol address and port number. In the “Proxy Type” line and select “UDP to HTTP Proxy”.

The setup has been successfully completed, and you can already watch the TV channels available in the playlist.

For Windows OC

To watch IP-TB on a computer, you can use the special IP-TV Player program. Download it and install it as usual – like any other. Then run and do the following:

1. Select “Blank Profile” from the available list, and then click “OK”.
2. In the “Settings” section, click on “General”, check the box next to “All settings” to open more configurable options.
3. Here you need to fill in the “Channel List Address”, as well as the “Network Interface”. In the first field, select the protocol address, in the second – the port.
4. Click “Update” and complete the setup.

That’s it, you can start watching IP-TV channels on your PC. The UDP proxy function is required to play IPTV TV channels on players that do not accept multicast streams. The process of setting them up depends on the device on which you plan to watch IPTV, as well as on the type of router if the viewing will take place on a TV.
