Types of TV brackets on the wall
If there are many positions in the room from which you can watch TV, it makes sense to purchase a bracket with swivel, tilt, and extend functions. They are more expensive than conventional fixed counterparts, but they allow you to change the position of the screen, creating optimal viewing conditions.
Swivel retractable
This is a retractable arm that has a swivel joint that allows a large screen rotation angle. The hinge length can be up to 100 mm. Before buying and installing the swing-out bracket, be sure to read the instructions – what is the permissible weight of the TV.Pros:
- wide functionality;
- can be moved far away from the wall;
- adjustment of the angle of inclination and rotation is possible;
- easy device management.
Minuses:
- complex installation;
- exactingness to the weight of the TV;
- high price.
Some brackets are supplied by manufacturers with shelves for video equipment.
Tilt-swivel
This is the most popular type of TV mount. It is a combination of inclined and fixed structures. Allows you to rotate the screen up and down – by 20-30 degrees, to the sides – by 180 or more degrees.Swivel-tilt brackets are:
- folding;
- sliding;
- pantograph.
Such devices save space and provide a comfortable TV viewing. The more mates in the bracket, the further you can move the screen away from the wall. Pros:
- can be installed in the corner;
- allow you to select the ideal screen position for any viewing point;
- ample opportunities to adjust the position of the screen.
Minuses:
- take up more space than other types of brackets – you need a headroom for adjustment;
- relatively high cost.
Brackets of this type are most relevant in rooms with complex configurations, as well as in spacious rooms, divided into functional zones.
Among the swivel arms offered by manufacturers, there are models that provide remote control. This is especially convenient for large TVs, as it is difficult to manually rotate such bulky structures.
Do-it-yourself rotary option
The main requirement for a homemade bracket is reliability. If your skills and abilities are enough to build a sturdy device that will not fall off under the weight of the TV, you can encroach on a more complex structure – assemble a bracket with the ability to rotate.
Necessary materials
There are many options for making swivel brackets. Consider the manufacture of a structure using the example of a device made of perforated corners. To work you will need:
- perforated corner – 2 pcs.;
- nuts, screws and washers M6;
- paint in an aerosol can.
Please note that the corners must necessarily have stiffening ribs – this will exclude their bending under the influence of a load. Also pay attention to the thickness of the corners – it should not be less than 2 mm.
Select the corners taking into account the dimensions and weight of the TV. Wide products are more reliable. If a small device is suspended, the minimum width of the corners is 65 mm, for large models – from 100 mm.
Manufacturing process
Start the work on creating the bracket with a drawing. Calculate the load and locate on the wall where the bracket will be installed. Please note that additional space is required to rotate the TV structure. Draw the drawing yourself or find a suitable sketch on the Internet. In this case, you can use the ready-made parameters. The initial data is the weight and dimensions of your TV. The order of assembly and installation of a swivel bracket from metal corners:
- First of all, fit the DIN rail (metal profile) to size and cut it, taking into account the location of the mounting holes on the TV case.
- Screw the mounting bracket in the middle of the profile so that it is located on the TV side. Bend the edges of the rail slightly – it should be tightly pressed against the mounting holes. With the rail secured, position the corner so that the bend points downward.
- To install the TV on a bracket, fix the other mounting bracket with dowels or anchors to the wall. Decide on the place of fasteners in advance.
- To mount the TV on a DIY bracket, dock the DIN rail and mounting bracket. One bolt is sufficient for fixing. Do not tighten it too tightly so that the TV cabinet can be rotated effortlessly.
To increase the strength of the connection and prevent it from loosening, it is advisable to use 3-4 nuts. This will eliminate the breakdown of the bolted connection due to numerous rotations of the TV.
If the swing arm is visible from the side, paint over it. But first, dismantle the device – if you have already hung it, and only then paint it in the color of the walls. Use spray paint. Apply 1-2 coats to the bracket and dry. Then re-mount it on the wall. Video on how to mount the bracket to the wall:
